Please help replace the inaccessible links

Some of the notes have links to articles from The Independent or the Belfast Telegraph. It now appears that many of their past articles are available only for a fee (and not accessible anonymously at all). I would like to replace all those non-functional links with new links--either links to the same article on another site, or links to other articles that provide the same information to substantiate the point of the note.

You can help me replace them: whenever you follow a link to independent.co.uk or www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk, and get a response showing just the beginning of the article and saying you must subscribe to see the rest, you can search for a good alternative URL I can use. If you find one, mail it to me (rms at this site) and I will put it in. Please tell me both the old URL and the new one.

These links now point to special pages in https://stallman.org/oldlinks, pages that explain the problem and then link to the original URL. So if you want to search for replacement links, just look in https://stallman.org/oldlinks to find a list of problems.

I think it is a most harmful practice for newspapers to charge for access to old articles. If they must charge for access to something on their web sites, it should be the latest news, not the records of the past.
